WHAT IS RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING?

This is where we accept a previous certified course/module as meeting the learning outcomes (or covering the syllabus) for a comparable course/module at UAM, so you don’t need to take it as part of your degree. This reduces the number of courses (and the length of time) required to complete your program of study.

TRANSFERRING FROM ANOTHER INSTITUTION

If one has been studying at another accredited institution and wishes to transfer to the program offered by the UAM, you may be able to transfer any credit you accumulated to the new program. Prior learning will only be considered if one satisfies the entrance requirements for the Program concerned.

For credit to be awarded for your prior learning, one must have completed a certificated course/module with comparable syllabus of similar level and depth as part of a previous qualification. Certificated learning is learning which has been formally assessed by a recognized academic institution or professional body acceptable to us and for which you have been awarded a resulting qualification and/or credit.

Such applications for credit exemption are considered on a case by case basis and rely on the program regulations governing the program to which you wish to transfer. Program regulations will indicate whether and under what conditions prior learning will be considered.

TO APPLY FOR EXEMPTION, ONE MUST FOLLOW THESE STEPS:

1. Download and fill the Application for Exemption from Modules Based on Certified Prior Learning (CPL) form.
2. Attach the relevant supporting documentation and return to the Examinations Office.
3. Pay the non-refundable application fees for prior learning assessment.
4. Continue to attend classes while waiting for the application results.
